The Make BLS Basic program aims to change this paradigm. Having the skills to perform the fundamental, life saving measures of CPR should become basic. It is time for BASIC Life Support to live up to its name!
Contact UsWe aim to develop a campaign to change the current out of hospital cardiac arrest paradigm in Boston, primarily by increasing bystander CPR rates in minority communities. We are looking for community centers, churches, etc. to partner with and host our educational programs for their community members.
Educate community members about sudden cardiac death.
Highlight a case study of a cardiac arrest survivor.
Teach Hands-Only CPR and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).
Empower a local community champion to coordinate future educational programming and connect with community health resources.
Assess learning and evaluate the program using our online pre and post surveys.
Raffle away individual gift cards and provide AEDs to centers with the highest community participation.
Welcome! My name is Anezi Uzendu, and I am a cardiologist in training, cardiac arrest survivor, and founder of Make BLS Basic. On November 28th, 2016 at the age of 25, I suffered from a cardiac arrest playing basketball, the game I love. Despite the improbability of my survival, due to prompt defibrillation, timely cardiopulmonary resuscitation, excellent in-hospital care, and countless prayers, I once again have the opportunity to pursue my dreams.
I would like to pay this gift forward and ensure that other victims of sudden cardiac arrest will have the second chance I couldn’t earn, yet graciously received. The team here at Make BLS Basic and our partners are making this possible. We plan to coordinate multiple community events, equipping individuals with information about sudden cardiac death and training in lifesaving Hands-Only CPR. Our hope is to empower people to save lives by making Basic Life Support truly basic.
